Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Buckingham County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be retained long enough to review it and respond. Messages remain within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the site's systems may automatically receive basic technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- Pages viewed during the visit
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine this activity into site-level reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected information is used only for ordinary site operations and service delivery. Those purposes include:
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Finding and correcting performance or technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Operating the site and improving load speed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Buckingham County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record data. Its reference material identifies official custodians, including Buckingham County courts, the sheriff, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange and Civil & Applicant Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is handled under that provider's privacy policy, including its own retention and disclosure rules. Those practices are outside this site's control. Review the applicable provider policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Buckingham County offices, Virginia court portals, Virginia State Police resources, legal-aid organizations, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read those terms before providing personal details.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and tailor advertisements. This site does not control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Outside providers processing a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected through the site. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and Buckingham County Criminal History cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If a minor is believed to have submitted such data, contact the site so the information can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ based on residence and applicable law. For official Virginia records, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to covered public-body records, while Code § 19.2-389 governs criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private resource into a government records custodian. For information held directly by this site, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal information held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion of personal data where applicable
- Opt out of processing when a governing law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or requirements change. A revised version will be posted here, and the effective date will be updated at the same time. Visitors should review the current text when they want to understand how information is handled.
